did NOT keep up with k-pop this month, so the only new things on this are 1) svt’s newest release bc caratisms 2) the weeknd, bc i randomly heard out of time on the radio and decided to loop the album i guess.

not sure if it’s surprising that i liked ajoomma as much as i did. i guess i didn’t expect to relate to a chinese auntie going thru a midlife identity crisis as an empty nester, or like the over -the-top hijinks in the middle of the movie. but the makjang-ness of the plot made perfect sense, because how else was auntie going to realise she IS the protagonist of her own k-drama? also the way auntie’s son being GAY got buried in local interviews, considering that it's not a small subplot 👀

+ could only silently scream in the cinema whenever 여성시대 came out in the movie because the way this is the Perfect Auntie Empowerment K-Pop Zoomba Song??

also started watching transfer love bc boo seungkwan <3 the who-is-the-ex mystery element of the show at the beginning was rly fun, even though i did spoil myself thanks to mmtg. but when haeeun arrived i had to skip so many episodes bc it was SO difficult to see her so sad for so long. i’m soooooo happy she found hyungyu (or heonggu found her i guess).

📚 reading

finally finished a certain exposure, which had been sitting on my shelf half-read for a while. i like that it captured attitudes towards queerness here in the 90s - not that much of it has changed, really. also, as someone who was constantly told to “just chill” and “calm down” by classmates who were constantly making unfunny jokes, deeply related to hwee leng.

the author has always been great at narrating the inner thoughts of truly awful human beings who see nothing wrong with their own logic; but i thought her writing style worked better for the single-pov after the inquiry. in this book, her own voice seemed to bleed too much into the different characters’ voices, if that makes sense?

after mulling over buying an ipad for months, finally decided to get the cheapest 9th gen ipad before apple jacks up the prices of their newer models lmfao. waiting for my case and knock-off pencil to come before i rly start using it, but i’m excited to get my therapy homework (spending more time outside the house) done, even if it’s just… me doing what i do at home outside lol.
